How Roof Rules Change Across the Hudson Area

Roof rules change across the Hudson area in three ways: who issues a building permit, how much snow a new roof is built to carry, and which state’s law applies. In Wisconsin each city, village and town sets its own reroof permit rules, St. Croix County roofs are designed for more snow than Pierce County ones, and Lakeland falls under Minnesota law.

Service Area FAQs

Which Towns Does Hudson Roofing Pros Cover?

Hudson plus North Hudson, River Falls, New Richmond, Somerset, Roberts, Baldwin, Hammond, Woodville, Prescott, Star Prairie, Ellsworth and Houlton in Wisconsin, and Lakeland across the river in Minnesota. If you are somewhere in between, choose "Somewhere else nearby" on the form and tell us where.

Do Permit Rules Differ From Town to Town?

Yes. The City of Hudson needs no permit for a reroof with no structural work, the Village of Hammond requires one from its clerk, and Woodville asks owners to contact its inspector before replacing a roof. St. Croix County issues no building permits itself; each town and village has its own inspector, and we confirm the rules there before work starts.

Is the Snow Load the Same Across the Area?

No. Wisconsin builds new homes in St. Croix County for a 40 pounds per square foot roof snow load and in Pierce County for 30, and River Falls sits on the line between the two.
